Wonderlove: A Tribute Mix to Stevie Wonder (Mixed by DJ Rhettmatic)

I love love LOVE timeless music, especially when its put together by an amazing dj. Rhettmatic dropped this gem of a tribute in celebration of HIS birthday (happy birthday Rhett!) – A Tribute mix to Stevie Wonder- Tracklist after the jump.

I was thinking of doing a mix on James Brown, but I realized that no one can do a James Brown mix better than my brother & fellow Beat Junkie, J.Rocc, so scratch that. I thought of doing one on Ghostface Killah, but I already did one a few years ago for the Ghostface Killah doll. Strike number 2! Last but not least, there’s the legendary Stevie Wonder. I know that Dj Spinna & Bobbitto Garcia aka Cucumber Slice are the masters when it comes to Stevie’s catalogue, but I actually made a mix that was a birthday gift for a good friend and was a big Stevie Wonder fan. I listened to the mix again a few weeks ago and I actually like how the mix came out. So I thought to myself, why not share it with people and also celebrate Stevie’s birthday….I just added an intro to the mix, and what you have now, is “Wonderlove”.

VIDEO: Rob Stone (Fader Magazine) X Yaya Martinez

I was lucky enough to catch up with Rob Stone of Fader Magazine and chop it up about their latest issue #73, with Notorious B.I.G., which is also their Icon issue.
There is some great footage on the web right now with more on the way of Biggie performing, he was able to tell me a couple of personal things about Big which was also really interesting. Take a listen-Buy The Fader, or keep it locked with me this friday night to win your issue. 🙂

GREAT News: Krucial & Alicia Keys working on next album

Anyone that knows me knows I’m a HUGE fan of Alicia Keys’ music, especially growing up. I took to twitter today after hearing a couple of things here and there about her getting back in the studio with Krucial Keys, (one of) the producers behind majority of her earlier work (which is notably classic)- because I wanted to KNOW for sure that this was going down.

Great news. Can’t wait to hear it- lets see if I can get an interview with Krucial beforehand? 🙂

Video: Notorious B.I.G.- The Warning-

Never before seen footage of Notorious B.I.G. performing “Warning” was released today by Fader Magazine-

Everyone knows I’m a huge Biggie fan, so the fact that Fader is honoring the late great Notorious BIG by putting him on the cover of their Icon issue-

Every year, FADER makes an Icon issue. We have featured artists like Aaliyah, Shabba Ranks, Nina Simone and David Byrne, musicians whose impact feels so large it’s almost unknowable. We’ve always tried to parse their influence by speaking with friends, family and fans to create a portrait of their lives both in and outside of music. However, with an artist like Notorious BIG, the subject of this year’s issue, much of that work has already been done because Big was so beloved. We’re not trying to compete with Notorious (shout to Gravy, though), but we set about painting a portrait of Big both as a rapper and as a regular dude. In our issue you’ll read accounts from the intern who witnessed Big and Tupac’s first encounter, you’ll hear what Puff thinks about when he listens to Biggie’s music today. You’ll see new photos of prominent places in Big’s life, from the tunnel he drives through backwards in the “Hypnotize” video, to the block where he performed his infamous teenage freestyle. And you don’t even have to wait for our issue’s release on May 3rd to read Andrew Noz’ essay about Biggie’s musical legacy, that’s on TheFADER.com right here, right now. There’s a whole lot more to come and we can’t wait for you to see it.

Janet Jackson- When I think of you

For some reason this song is stuck in my head… No sub post. No really. Isn’t her love interest in this video so corny? hahaha- It think it has a lot to do with my sister monica, I just talked to her the other day about Janet Jackson’s concert that hit here in phoenix-I was lucky enough to go see her.
